THE CHAMBER!

(Keri’s house)

(Keri de snow)

My sister got a new job up in Maine.  She IS the River Valley Chamber of Commerce.  No really – she is the only paid employee.  Up in her winter oasis, “THE CHAMBER” is her name and membership is her game.  So to any of you up in Peru or Mexico (Maine, that is) – you need to join your local chamber of commerce!

Also in new job news – both Stephanie and Ellie have new jobs!  After some reorganization termoil, these ladies have landed on their feet with new jobs!  Many congrats!  I’m so proud!

The stuffed dog!

See this stuffed dog?

It’s Hollis’ favorite.  He takes it with him everywhere.  It’s his little buddy.

On Saturday morning, we found the dog pushed through the fence.  Hollis wanted to share it with the neighbor’s dogs.  I thought that was precious.  What a loving pup!   Maybe he’ll even share it with Martin.

Look at her go!

On Sunday morning, Morgan (Saltimbocca) ran the Austin 3M Half Marathon - her first half marathon - at a 7 minute 36 second/mile pace!  Hil Street was there as she crossed the finish line (and unfortunately for Morgan, was also the official photographer for the experience).  Her coach/husband (pictured below) was very proud of his trainee and our personal trainer friend, Amanda, cheered Morgan on during the race (whilst encouraging her running group from her gym).  Morgan finished 6th in her age group!  In the running picture, Morgan is in red.

Disclaimer: My sports news story is a little choppy – I’m no “Will Graves.” :)

Second disclaimer: This is the second time in a week that I have mentioned Will Graves in a blog post.

Congratulations, Morgan!

Large Trash Pickup Day!

Today is large trash pick up day in Milwood.  All weekend, our neighbors have unloaded their large trash, and people with big trucks have been scouring the neighborhood, looking for that token of trash which will become their treasure.  It’s always fun to walk around and see what people are giving away.  Who remodeled this year?  (Answer: Those who have their sea shell sinks out on their porch.)  You will see everything from refrigerators to vacuums to boats.  Here are the Hil Street Large Trash Pickup awards for the year.

1. Funniest Scavenger Award: A young man had three – THREE – grills in the bed of his truck.  I see that the charcoal grill was a hot item this year – but three?  Maybe he is cooking for a large group?

2. Funniest Large Trash Award: It’s hard to even compete in this category, because of the infamous 2006 large trash pick up funniest winner: A boat named Miguel.  But we have a winner.  One of the ever-Christmas-light contest finalists always decorates their house AND a doll house with beaucoups of lights.  The doll house was up for grabs.  Is this because a) they decorating something bigger and better than a doll house with Christmas Lights next year?  Like their neighbor’s house? or b) because Hil Street endorsed another house and they are throwing in the towel?

3. Hardest Large Trash to get onto Your Curb Award: This goes to Mike and Amanda, who have UPROOTED their hot tub and dragged it into the front yard.  I know you all are buff – but call us to help next time!  Hell, we can just tie hyper-hypo-Hollis to it and have him drag it out.

LOLinator!

Weslie and Suz introduced me to a funny website.  If you are familiar with the LOLcats, you will enjoy this.

Plug one of your favorite websites into the LOLinator and watch that website change into some funny language.  Also, all the chosen website’s images will be replaced with cat images.  Blogs and news stories are the funniest because they have a lot of text.  I have a random sample for you here:

Baby Animal Update!

I bet you are wondering how my world of Baby Animals is going.

Baby Animals need lots of love and attention, but I have things to do in the evenings … like shower … and eat dinner.   So, I have been getting up really early to love on them.  Yesterday morning, here’s how it went:

Hil: Get up!

Ryan: It’s early.

Hil: We have to care for our baby animals!

Ryan: You act like we live on a farm.

So, I let Hollis get in bed with Ryan “not so ‘Old McDonald’ ” Marchbanks.

And Baby Animals are dramatic, I tell you!  Everything involves such energy. Loud meowing, hissing, whining, leaping, barking, swatting, pawing, pouncing, chewing and jumping.  Oh my!

We are slowly introducing Martin and Hollis.  First, we set Martin up on the washer and open the door, revealing the puppy in the kitchen.  Martin hisses with fervor; Hollis whines. Hollis’ reaction makes me wonder … is this whine a “I want to eat this mini-Mercedes” or is this whine a “I want to herd this mini-Mercedes” or is this whine a ”I love my new mini-Mercedes.”  I just don’t know yet.

Can’t we all just get along?

I have a dream that one day, tabby cats and cute dogs will join hands in the old pet spiritual … Feed our ass. Feed our ass. Please mommy or daddy, feed our ass!                                                                                 -Will Graves

Guest Blog Post from Maya the Cat!

Oh, hi … I’m Maya the cat.  My occupation is: Princess.

My indentured servants, Andria and Blair, went on a trip this weekend to Florida.  Usually they take me on their trips or drop me off at some relative’s house with five other cats and their servants, but this time, they hired Hil to be my indentured servant while they are gone.

At first, I was coy.  Who is this lady that smells like a border collie?  She kept telling me how much she “loves cats” and “takes good care of Morgan’s cat, Lexi” but I just wanted some peace and quiet.  She even brought Ryan over to play with me while they watched an entire basketball game at my house.  Bor-ing.  Neither basketball team had a cat mascot so I was not into it.

But then … she gave me TWO SCOOPS of food.

Oh. My. Cat-God.  I love this woman.

I let Hil have the pleasure of petting me and scratching my ears because she really “put out” in the food category.  I don’t want any sort of commitment, I’m just having fun.

Now, Blair and Andria are back, which is better because they sleep here and I can snuggle to stay warmer at night.  Besides, I hear that Hil and Ryan got a kitten of their own.  But I’m sure going to miss all those kitty crunchies!

Fortune 100!

My company made it in with the Googles and Whole Foods of the world and made the “Fortune 100 Best Places to Work in America” list again for the 9th consecutive year!  This turn of events means the following:

1. I will receive another long-sleeved t-shirt.

2. Ryan will receive another t-shirt made of some recycled-polycarbonate blend.

3. Our CEO will send out an e-mail.

4. We will have a keg party of some sort.

Congratulations fellow employees!
