Remember Your Baptism
I can’t resist posting about a good Methodist baptism! Charlie and Weston were baptized on Sunday each wearing baptismal gowns handed down from one side of the family. The crystal dish in the picture is from the 1800s and has held holy water baptizing Lacy‘s family for generations.
Congrats, kids. Keep your parents in line.
Things I Want to Do with Colin
I’m headed to Louisville this week to spend some much-needed time with Ellie (belated birthday trip) and to meet Colin for the first time (technically also a belated birthday trip). Jill, Steph, and Ellie all got to hang out this weekend with li’l boys Colin and Ethan and I am jealous!
Sidenote: This has nothing to do with Colin. I can’t wait to be cold. Ryan and I just returned from 75 degree weather in the Rio Grande Valley, and it’s supposed to be like 50 degrees today. Gimme some winter, Louisville!
Here is the list of things I can’t wait to do when I meet Colin:
1. Hold him. I have no idea what it feels like to hold Colin. How heavy is he? How squirmy is he? What does his hair smell like? I can’t wait to find out!
2. Learn how to give a baby a bath. I have never bathed a baby. Ellie, will you teach me? I feel inadequate.
3. Learn how to change a diaper. I have only changed a diaper a few times in my life. Will you remind me, Ellie? I’ve offered to babysit twin babies for a couple at my church and I realize how unqualified I am for that job.
4. Try baby food. No really – what is this “Chicken Dinner?” Let me try it, Colin, and I’ll tell you how it compares to the real deal.
5. Make a mobile of Will’s face. Will has been in Vancouver for several weeks. I want to make Colin a mobile of his pictures like Ross did on Friends.
6. Pick Colin out of a line up. Before I am tasked with any of the above challenges, I am going to pick Colin out from all the babies at daycare. Have my studies of Colin pictures and video footage prepared me? We will see during the final test.

South Texas Wedding
Saturday, Ryan and I drove south to the Rio Grande Valley for Beka’s wedding. We are family friends with Beka’s family, and the party was a fabulous affair. We even got seated with the hosts at the reception (woo fancy). The food was delicious authentic Mexican and Ryan and I enjoyed seconds. But don’t worry - we danced for about four hours straight to burn it off.
The wedding was at the Matriarch’s house (Memaw). In Memaw’s backyard, three miles from the border, in front of her family’s South Texas sugar cane field, granddaughter Beka and her groom Scott read the vows they chose themselves in front of the bride’s sisters as the Mother-of-the-Bride conducted the service. Three generations of powerful women sharing an intimate moment surrounded by the land from which they came.
Our ministers (read: parents of the bride) provided an honest, hilarious, and spiritual service, complete with the music of The Beatles.
All you need is love. Congrats, Beka and Scott!
Terrorism

Terrorism and threats to our way of life come in all sizes. Terrorists aren’t always someone from far away. And it doesn’t just happen in big important cities. It happens in the Heartland and it happens in the Heart of Texas. As Oklahoma City natives, my family knows this all too well.
It’s beautiful that the United States can change power from conservative to liberal without war, but it’s times like this that make us sad that there are people who don’t appreciate that.
Yesterday, outside of our office window, and angry man flew a small plane into a building holding an IRS office. People are injured and people are hurt. Pray for the people who were in the building. Pray for their families. Pray for the wife and daughter of the aggressor. Pray for our country.

Lenten Journey
It’s here again. Lent. It’s Ash Wednesday and I have no idea what I am going to give up. Coffee? Wine? Anger over all the celebrities I thought were from the U.S. until I saw the opening ceremonies? Blogging?
I have one friend who isn’t buying anything material until Easter. That same friend wrote a hand-written note to a someone each day of Lent. See, you can add stuff too.
Tara is going to be pregnant for Lent and give that up right around Easter for her early April due date (I am hilarious).
Whether you add something or take something away, remember that this is a journey! We choose to participate in Lent to enter into Jesus’ story. Do you have to participate in liturgical practices to be Christian? No. Should you? I don’t care. To each his own.
Lent is a practice. The practice of preparing ourselves for Easter by choosing something that will mature our spirituality and bring us closer to Jesus’ story. Is that yoga? Journaling? Not eating sweets? Denying yourself coffee?
What is it for you? What answers that question? What practice will bring you closer to Jesus’ story?
Birthdays, Birthdays, All Around
Yesterday my dear friends Johanna and Andria had birthdays and today is Ellie’s birthday.
In one week and two days I will be in Louisville with Ellie, celebrating her birthday and enjoying the cold weather. And meeting her son. I can’t wait! I can’t decide if this trip is my birthday present to her, or a gift to me. Meh, doesn’t matter. We’re both happy about it.
Happy Birthday to all!
Husbanks is turning 30
My dear husband turns 30 Sunday. His family is on their way in and I hope Ryantine’s Day is a smashing success.
My friend Dawkins has taught me how important birthdays are. It’s the day mothers become mothers. Made me have a new appreciation. Glad we can spend the 30th with his family.
On someone’s birthday you celebrate them, and there is a lot to celebrate with Husbanks. He’s smoking hot, laid back, loyal to his close friends, a firecracker in the bedroom (good thing my mom doesn’t have a computer, that would have been awkward), patient, smart, inclusive, and loving to animals.
The best thing about Husbanks though? He’s hilarious. I mean … who is this animated?
Welcome to the Jesus years, Husbanks.

The Third Annual Valentine-Making Party was a blast! I co-hosted with Dawkins and Lacy and invited all the communications department this year. The fruit Lacy brought was all red for Valentine’s Day and Dawkins made gooey brownies.
