Lenten Journey
It’s here again. Lent. It’s Ash Wednesday and I have no idea what I am going to give up. Coffee? Wine? Anger over all the celebrities I thought were from the U.S. until I saw the opening ceremonies? Blogging?
I have one friend who isn’t buying anything material until Easter. That same friend wrote a hand-written note to a someone each day of Lent. See, you can add stuff too.
Tara is going to be pregnant for Lent and give that up right around Easter for her early April due date (I am hilarious).
Whether you add something or take something away, remember that this is a journey! We choose to participate in Lent to enter into Jesus’ story. Do you have to participate in liturgical practices to be Christian? No. Should you? I don’t care. To each his own.
Lent is a practice. The practice of preparing ourselves for Easter by choosing something that will mature our spirituality and bring us closer to Jesus’ story. Is that yoga? Journaling? Not eating sweets? Denying yourself coffee?
What is it for you? What answers that question? What practice will bring you closer to Jesus’ story?
