On My Way to See the Face of Jesus

I’m headed to Costa Rica for a wedding! And while I will see God’s beauty while I am there, that is not what I meant by this post’s title.

What I meant is that our friend Alan (groom tomorrow) looks just like Jesus. And he’s a carpenter. And we’re on our way to see him.

Catch you next week, dear blog readers!

Two Things That Make Me Happy

1. The sparkly thermometer. I have exceeded my donation goal and have been rewarded with a sparkly thermometer! Blair and Andria pushed me over the top. Thanks guys.

2. How cute are my mom and her sister (R-L) at their first playoff game. They love the Thunder. Go OKC!

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day, check out the column I wrote for our company’s employee newsletter:

Green Your Commute

In August 2008, I purchased a new set of wheels – a commuter bike. Complete with faux leather “interior” and a basket for my bag, this mode of transportation has proven very effective in getting me to and from work. I enjoy riding to work (it’s only 1.2 miles – don’t consider me a Green Hero), and I get a teeny bit of exercise in the process. I love to multitask.

On top of my teeny bit of exercise, I now fill up my Honda Civic every other week instead of every 10 days. 1.2 miles isn’t a lot of mileage, so if an engineer can explain why I am saving that much gas money, I’m all ears.

I have my limits though. I don’t ride my bike if I have plans after work far away or if it’s rainy. I don’t want to sit at my desk soaking wet.

There is a down side to my chosen pedal power. Other than use for my 1.2 mile commute to NI, the bike is pretty useless. It’s heavy, and only has three speeds, which makes it less than ideal for Central Texas hills. I had to borrow a real road bike from colleague Veronica Garza to participate in this weekend’s Hill Country Ride for AIDS.

But I think it’s worth it, because it’s SUPER CUTE.

Reached My Goal!

I have reached my $500 fund raising goal. My first donation? Weslie in Seattle.  The final donations to ring the bell? Siblings Justin and Tara!

Just so you know, if I go over my goal, I get a sparkly thermometer graphic on my page. So feel free to still donate if you were going to do so. I’d love to have the flashy “100%+” thermometer.

This reminds me that I have two goals. First, to raise money for Central Texas Austin AIDS care. Second – to finish a group athletic event. The only time I have completed a group workout was running with Hollis.  That is if you consider two a group. An inter-species group.

I’m so excited for the ride!

Training update: Thank You and No Thank Yous

I give a “thank you” to you, because I am now 72% to my donation goal! Did you know you are giving to the second largest AIDS ride in the US? Here is where my support is coming from:

And I give a “no thank you” to my padded shorts. They are not flattering and they feel weird. I also give a “no thank you” to going downhill on a road bike. It’s scarier than uphill because it’s so fast. It’s just me, the bike, the speed, and the asphalt. And the fear.

Thanks again for supporting a ride dedicated to providing care for those living with AIDS.

Ellie’s Brush with Fame!

Not only did Ellie and Will get to go to the Final Four, look who they met! Fellow Mountaineer fan, Brad Paisley! Here’s the proof:

I don’t listen to country, but I also don’t live under a rock. Brad Paisley is way famous and this is way cool.

Reasons I love this picture:

1. It’s Ellie and someone way famous.

2. It’s Ellie and someone way famous both dressed head to toe supporting their team.

3. It’s at a basketball game.

4. Ellie tagged “Brad Paisley” in this picture in Facebook. I bet I never get to do that.

Blog Survey! Tag, you are it!

Katie posted this and tagged all her blogging friends. I now tag all of you! Here are the questions:

1. Who is your style icon? I … don’t think I have one.  I do work with some fashionistas though.

2. What is your favorite socialite lit book? Katie, I agree – I don’t think “socialite literature” is a term. Does this mean Lauren Conrad’s “novels?” Then I have no answer.

3. Favorite party theme? Costume.

4. Go to Halloween costume? “Dirty Dancing.”

5. Extravagance you cannot live without? I have my house cleaned and I get pedicures. Oh, and Gina. I get very excited about haircut day with Gina.

6. Living person you admire? My colleagues with energetic toddlers at home. Dawkins does it all on her own, Lacy deals with double trouble, and Stephanie became a real life Real Simple with her creative uses for breast milk. All of their sons are delightful. I’m sure it’s hard to have happy toddlers and be really smart in corporate America, but they make it look easy. Like a hobby.

7. Greatest Fear? Getting murdered and not leaving clues. If I get murdered, I want 48 Hours Mystery to thank me and show how smart I was because I left clues that caught my killer.

8. Trait you deplore in yourself? I disregard people who share uninformed opinions. I wish I weren’t so snobby about ignorant people.

9. Which talent would you most like to have? I wish I could read Husbanks’ mind.

10. Greatest Achievement? Anytime you help someone understand the assurance and peace that a journey with God can bring, you have achieved something.

Oh, I also rode a mule into the mother f@*%ing Grand Canyon.
